Bumblebee

July, 2020 - Part of the Insect collection

Spending a lot of time in Manchester as I was growing up gave me a real love for the city, and an appreciation of its culture and arts. As the bumblebee is the symbol of the city, I simply had to draw one.

This drawing was quite different to the other two in my Insect collection, as it involved fur and the wings were transparent, so I was very interested to see how it turned out.

I begun by drawing the legs and then moved onto the fur in the body, using pencils, graphite sticks and Tombow Mono eraser to add texture, before lightly shading in the wings and finishing off with the head and eyes.

Not only are bees super cute, but they’re absolutely vital in maintaining the health of our planet. Bumblebees are crucial in the pollination of fruits, vegetables, seeds and other crops, so without bees pollenating plants, we’d run out of food pretty quickly.
