My starting point with drawings is usually the eyes, as more often than not they are the focal point in images. For the garden bird collection however, I felt the wings were by far the most distinctive feature of all three drawings so begun each one with the wings.
The wings might look simple, but they were far from it! I always draw out the lines before I shade and add in details, but there were so many lines to draw for the wings it was at times a challenge to tell each feather apart. Once the wings were finished I moved onto the tail feathers and finished with the head.
